Pilot whales and bottlenose dolphins galore!

Yesterday we had a lovely surprise when  we met some Short finned Pilot whales! Although for the last few years we have been seeing them anytime between April and November (usually we meet them more in June and July), the last time we saw them this year was in August.

We were starting to miss them so it was really nice to meet this group of 25 adults and calves that were calmly travelling south.

 

The day was also marked by a small group of Risso’s dolphins that even allowed our swimmers to watch them in their natural environment 😀

 

 

Finally, in our afternoon tour we saw two really big groups of bottlenose dolphins, 50 and 40 individuals each, after having another group of 60 bottlenose in the morning tour. Although we can’t say for sure, all of these groups seemed to be different from each other. Usually when we find a big group like this we see it during the whole day, and don’t see groups this big this close together. All of them were quietly travelling and always allowed us to stay quite close! 🙂
