It feels like big time summer here in Sao Miguel! This morning we went out with a big sun waiting for us, but that was not all. 8 whales and many dolphins were also waiting for us in the sun 🙂

We started with a group of 6 Sperm whales perfectly aligned and floating around like trees. They were socializing and spyhopping. Their huge heads were sticking out, and this is their way of human watching, just like we watch them 🙂

The whales never dove down into the dweep, so after a while we moved on about 10 miles out to find 2 baleen whales. We speculate that they were Sei whales, but they might have been Fin whales as well, as they didn’t show themselves close enough to determine the exact species. Well….let’s just call them baleen whales for today!

And then…after all the whales and strong sunlight, we found our resident group of Common dolphins. It was a great sight, they were reflecting their beautiful colors in the light, and stayed near the boat while they were socializing and mating.

Tomorrow is always another surprise! 😀
