Patience for the Sperm Whale!

Today it wasn’t sure if we were going out. The wind came from the north and close to the coast it was quite calm. But because of the wind the waves were quite strong further out of the coast. But this didn’t stop us from going out!

First we encountered common dolphins. Some of them were breaching high and calves were around. Even though they were a bit spread out, they were still close to the boat.

Then we travelled quite a distance to go to a whale zone. The waiting was quite long and the waves were high, but we didn’t gave up because we knew there was a sperm whale around and he had to take a breath at the surface at least once! Eventually he came up and it was worth the wait; it was a large male and after a while he went for a deep dive, so we were able to see the tail! Patience is a virtue with the wildlife 🙂

The tour was quite an adventure, much water came into the boat and extra jackets were handed out. Normally this isn’t the case but it can happen, especially now that the summer has ended (unfortunately!). Because of this we advise for clothing to not wear jeans, those are not very comfortable when they are wet 😉 But we saw whales and in the end, that is what counts!
