The best show you can have is the one of wild dolphins breaching in all directions, and this is what we had today 🙂

Let’s start from the beginning though. We headed out at sea with a northern breeze and some fresh waves. From distance a huge flock of shearwaters was happily enjoying a fishy meal. We decided to check if together with the birds there were some dolphins too, as often is the case.

However, when we approach the flock no dolphins around, only a frenetic flapping of wings. Many were young individuals, and for this reasons we needed to move the boat with additional care, as young are not used to boats and usually do not fly away. Even with all the care one individual landed on top of TA III and after an initial concern that it may had hurt itself, eventually it was fine just a bit disoriented for the unexpected landing site.

In the meantime we got news from our lookout and so we started our wet journey to the dolphins. Well, wet because the fresh waves started to get inside the boat, and as real sailors we reached the bottlenose dolphins. The large group was engaged in spectacular jumps, when one individual was about to “land” on the sea surface another one was rising in the air. Some were also surfing and swimming in row formation. The photos shown belong to a previous tour as today the fresh waves prevented us to get some good shots of the jumps 😉

On the way back we met more dolphins, this time the colourful common dolphins 🙂 and when back at the base a warm local green tea was waiting for us.

What’s up for tomorrow? Let’s find it out together! 🙂
