Hello everyone!
This morning we started the tour with exciting sigthings of a group of Striped Dolphins (Stenella coeruleoalba) travelling across the blue ocean. The sea was a good reminder that we are at the mercy of wind and water currents. When we have waves around one can say that dolphins enjoy a lot more the water, because they like riding the waves to save energy.
Our brave sailers also spotted a Sperm Whale (Physeter macrocephalus) just travelling towards another Sperm Whale that was in the same area.
We were so lucky to find pieces of giant squid and octopus. This helped us understand why the Sperm Whales were staying so long at the surface. They were probably satisfied and had no need to go back down to search for food.
Surfing around the whale a group of Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) drew our attention. They were jumping really high and travelled under the whale heading out west. Seeing them in nature it’s so precious.
Later on we navigated to the area of a huge pod of Common dolphins (Delphinus delphis). But on our way: wowwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!! A massive submarine emerged from the depth. A male Sperm Whale resting at the surface. What a big animal! The head was visible under the waves, making it more easy to understand their body lenght.
After being astounded by the size of the animal, we found the group of Common dolphins. There were a lot of babies in the pod, newborn babies the size of a small teddy bear 🙂
In a nut shell there is not really much more to say than another day filled with laughter, water and emotions.
