Time has come to renovate our base in Vila Franca do Campo and we decided to follow a more sustainable path! How? Have a look in the pics!
We changed some of the furniture fitted in the base to a more sustainable material, the Cryptomeria (Cryptomeria japonica). For those who don’t know these trees, they are originally from central and southern japan and was introduced in the Azores around XIX century.
In the Azores Cryptomeria forest occupies around 1/3 of the land, which is the equivalent of 4500 hectares, which 2119 hectares only in São Miguel island.
Cryptomeria wood is really nice quality, durable and very easy to work wood. Moreover, it’s locally sourced and it will help to support local economy. Also the Azorean Government aims to establish production and conservation as long-term commitments, with important effects on spacial planning, starting, this way, a certification process.
And what about the old white furniture? REUSE! We will tranform it and give a new life to continue to be useful. Time to be creative!
