Engine noise and its impact on the animals

Hello everyone!

Today we are here to talk a little bit about our engine’s choice and how we deal with animals in the ocean so we can reduce our impact on their daily needs.

TERRA AZUL uses SUZUKI MARINE engines as they are currently the most efficient regarding gas consumption. The option for gasoline is essentially because the engines are less noisy than Diesel ones. Since we are working with marine mammals it makes sense to take that into account.

Also some rules that we have to keep in mind in order to reduce the impact on the animals (such as communication, foraging and navigating) as well as the speed and distance of approach. When we get closer to the animals we must reduce the speed and maintain our speed (no sudden speed changes). This will also help reducing the noise in the area!

You can also find more information on this matter on our post about WCA – World Cetacean Alliance

We love sharing with you all the improvements that we make in order to always be the most sustainable that we can. Hopefully on day we can even access other technologies in order to decrease even more our impact.

Hope to see you at Terra Azul!
