Hey guys! Yesterday the opportunity came along to register the number of marine bird species around the ilheu of Villa Franca do Campo.

As any enthusiastic marine biologist the opportunity to provide data for a project is always something exciting.

Our Ornithologist friend from the SPEA (Sociedade Portuguesa para o Estudo das Aves), contacted us to partake in this exciting new project called “Arenaria Project” which is a joint initiative of the Eco-Ethology Research Unit (ISPA – University Institute), the National Natural History and Science Museum (MNHNC) to understand more about the distribution, abundance and population trends of Portuguese shorebirds during winter.

This census allowed to gain information from different parts of the country when assessing population trends of different species of birds.

I encourage all of you to take those binoculares and observe as much as you can the fauna in your countries, forests, gardens…

Here is a photo of the species that was sighted at the island of Villa Franca do Campo.
