A sub-adult Humpback Whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) slowly cruises alongside Terra Azul boat around six nautical miles out of Lagoa shores, Sao Miguel Island.

Easterly winds made our way out a bit bumpy but we did not need to travel too far to encounter several groups of Common Dolphins (Delphinus delphis) feeding surrounded by Cory’s Shearwaters (Calonectris borealis).

The waves helped us to get to the West where we had the great chance to spend some time with a couple of Humpback Whales (Megaptera novaeangliae). Water visibility was extremely good and we could clearly see their white pectoral fins while they approached our boat. It seems that their migration to the northern feeding grounds is already ongoing and hopefully we will get more of them visiting our waters in the next weeks.
