Hello Whale Watchers,

Just before the scheduled storm Lorenzo arrives, we were lucky to go out this morning after another few days of bad weather!
And what a tour.. clear skies, almost flat seas and on top of that all the motion in the ocean!!  🙂

Just outside of the marina we were accompanied by a friendly group of Common dolphins (Delphinus delphis) and for being a ,,common” dolphin, they still make every sighting a special one!

Shortly after that, our lookout has spotted a big group of Atlantic spotted dolphins (Stenella frontalis) feeding alongside with a huge group of Cory’s Shearwaters (Calonectris borealis), which is always an amazing spectacle to see..

While enjoying that, we got a excited call from the lookout who has sighted a Sperm Whale (Physeter macrocephalus) after a few weeks without seeing them! So we made our way to the Whale and kept seeing Spotted and also Bottlenose (Tursiops truncatus) dolphins on the way..

Once we found the Whale, we discovered its the Bull that we’ve been seeing around, a massive animal of around 18 meters and more that 50 tons. Even more impressive was it, when it decided to go for a deep dive (that can range up to ca. 2000m. deep) to feed and showed us his huge fluke! With the hydrophone we could hear the clicks that it uses to echolocate its prey – incredible !!

We’re hoping for more days like this one and also to stay safe with the upcoming storm !

See you soon 🙂
