Today was crazy, its like the whales changed and are suddenly in a different mood now that summer is here!
Again we saw Sperm Whales (Physeter macrocephalus) breaching, and that several times..

Sperm Whale (Physeter macrocephalus) breaching several times not far from our boat!

Such an impressive spectacle seeing those giant bodies completely out of the water creating huge splashes!
When we first arrived and spotted the animal for the first time we all thought it went for a deep dive and disappeared in the dark.. and then BOOM it came jumping out of the water and surprised us all!
When whales breach it can be for different reasons.. Either just to have a play, if they’re curious, but also to remove parasites attached to their body.
Very impressed and happy we moved back closer to the coast as more boats arrived to watch this spectacle.
The excitement didn’t end though, we kept stumbling across different species of dolphins on our way, starting with striped dolphins (Stenella coeruleoalba), then a big pod of common dolphins (Delphinus delphis) who were very playful and curious with our boat and last but not least, we finished our sightings with a big and friendly pod of Risso’s dolphins (Grampus griseus), who came close to our boat and gave us a good sight of their scars.

As it wouldn’t be enough, we found a little group of Loggerhead turtles (Caretta caretta) resting at the surface just before we headed back to the marina.

We definetly wouldn’t mind if the rest of the summer stayed like this and are hoping to see you soon on one of our tour 🙂
