Fly me to the moon, let me take you among the stars !!!

One of the things I enjoy the most about the ocean is that every single day you find unique beauty all around. So check out this amazing video in order to see the agility of these little fellows.

While on my first tours as while Whale Watching guide, I remember noticing something slick and quick  jumping out of the water. Later I learned that it was Flying fish (Cypselurus hetururus). I had never seen a flying fish before, now it has become a game spotting them out of the water while navigating, and every single time I feel excited to see them “flying”.

There are 64 species of flying fish and are called like that since their long wing-like fins allow them to glide and self-propell out of the water for quite considerable distances in order to escape predators. They start by gaining speed underwater, and positioning themselves at a upwards angle in order to break the water column by beating their tail very rapidly before take off.

They are found in all oceans, yet mainly in tropical and subtropical waters at the epipelagic zone of the water column meaning that they are found at depths no more than 200m  (660 ft).

So remember flying fish are Awesome !!!
