When you are a sailor you love the ocean no matter what. I had a couple of guests today on the boat who had never been out on the ocean. The thrill of being out in the Atlantic ocean is unique.

The sea must be respected at all times. Today we sailed out to find Striped dolphins Stenella coeruleoalba, the sea conditions changed and we navigated towards calmer waters.

The swell was being felt, but that did not stopped us. We were feeling the rush after seeing two Loggerhead Turtles Caretta caretta, these reptiles stay at the surface in order to warm up with the sun.

Guest were starting to feel tired and the sea will do that, this is one of the reasons I always advice people to bring a small bottle of water in order to always stay hydrated.

We navigated into the horizon only to find a small pod of pilot whales, most likely short-finned Globicephala macrorhynchus. These animals were resting at the surface, we spotted at least two newborn calves. The baby was so small, so after a 20 minutes we decided to leave the mothers and young ones alone. Respecting nature is all about admiring it an also understanding when it’s time to leave.

We introduced the hydrophone in the water in order to listen if Sperm whales Physeter macrocephalus where around….Nothing no clicks. We navigated further out to the East, and we decided to try again… sudendly “Click, click , click ” we could hear more than one individual. We spotted the blow and indeed after 35 minutes of waiting we saw them, two adults and a baby. A triple dive with three flukes going down, one after the other.

What a rush and what a beautiful way to experience the Atlantic Ocean. The most beautiful Ocean I have ever seen. Thank you again for a wonderful adventure that is shared with guests from all over the world.
