Caloura be hot today !

Caloura is a beautiful area of the São Miguel island and the view from the coastline to the shore is mesmerizing.

This side of  the island was visited by a mother and calf belonging to the Sei Whale (Balaenoptera borealisspecies. They were travelling yet surfacing so close to shore, if one would have been in Caloura watching the seaside from the cliff, the whales could have been spotted.

The wind yet changed direction and the waves made it a bit harder to try to find the blow of the whales, fortunately we all observed the two animals surfacing.

The wind changed as well and then for a few minutes the sun was shining on the water and we were able to spot a pod of Common dolphins (Delphinus delphisfeeding at the surface of the water, the seagulls were definitely jumping on the opportunity to catch fish and snatch it from the dolphins.

Coastal banquet with Common dolphins (Delphinus delphis) and yellow-legged gulls (Larus michahellis)

What a wonderful tour for a wintery sea of the month of November, with good sea conditions, nice weather and amazing sightings.
