Are we seeing the same Fin whales all week?

 

Today in the early morning we took the sun with us to the sea! As we started our tour a very compact group of about 30 Common dolphins suddenly appeared around us. They seemed to be pretty active and interactive between each other.

 

 

Then we heard that Andre, out lookout, spotted the “usual” Fin whale, much further out. I say “usual” because for the past weeks we have been seeing many Fin whales more or less in the same area, outside of Ribeira Quente, on a daily basis. On top of that, Fin whales are usually very fast moving animals, but for the past weeks they have calmed down a lot and each time they appeared next to the boat in a resting mode. This makes us think that we are seeing at least 1 of the Fin whales, over and over again. Today he/ she was alone.

In the afternoon the Common dolphins appeared again, behaving similar as the pod in the morning. It may have been the same ones. Join us for a next tour as we are expecting more and more sunshine these days! 🙂
