Das Pottwale von Azores !

Another amazing day !!!

Sunny times are slowly coming to an end, this morning the wind was blowing yet with blowing wind came a group of 200 hundred Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus). So many curious dolphins, it was daunting to see them swimming along side the boat and watching a 3,5 meter long adult jumping in an out of the water.

We then navigated in direction to the West to wait for our famous male “C1”, we like to joke here at our base and say that-“C1″ is the Moby Dick of Azores”. This magnificent male has been seen for the last few days and, when you think about his age and size, there is no doubt in my mind of why one, when not understanding these gentle giants, might write a book portraying sperm whales as terrifying monsters like Herman Melville did.

 

 

On the way to find the are where “C1” was spotted, we found a group of Common Dolphins (Delphinus delphis) jumping around and socializing.

 

 

A great way to start the day as usual. The time has arrived to prepare for the Christmas season but I am never prepared to go to the ocean since every day is different and for that there is no training !!!
