Risso’s dolphins and a chilly morning

A chilly southwest wind refreshed our faces while cruising on boat TAII. The chilly morning was though warmed up by the sight of Risso’s dolphins. They were slow travelling, surfacing with their rounded heads and tall dorsal fins. One individual being a fully grown adult showing the white coloration typical for older individuals and another one darker suggesting its younger age. The coloration pattern, the scars and marks along the dorsal fin edges of theses dolphins allow their individual identification. So far there have been identified 267 individuals in the Azores.
