It was a bit more windy today on the sea compare to these last days but it doesn’t matter, dolphins and whales are always around 😉 We went out with our two boats, whale watching and swimming with dolphins!
We were lucky to sight our 4 resident species close to the coast, not far from each other. Common dolphins were foraging with Cory’s shearwater, as usual 🙂 It is a good behaviour to observe underwater so our swimmers and team could spend a nice time with them!

On the way to observe bottlenose dolphins, feeding as well and socializing after a while, a family of Risso’s dolphins with a calf appeared close to our boat, surfing just below waves. So we had the 3 resident species of dolphins in a row!
Then, we saw whales! Toothed and baleen whales, starting with the emblematic Sperm whale wich showed us its fluke to take a deep dive 😀 It is very useful for us when Sperm whale show their tail as we can take picture to do photo identification on individuals. Nowadays, we are able to distinguish 267 different Sperm whales individuals around Sao Miguel, 936 individuals in the entire archipelago! Check Monicet 😉

Fin whales are still around, resting just below the surface, surfacing at regulary interval to breath this morning, and travelling quiet fast this afternoon. The migration to the north started already but some individuals are still chilling around Azores!

As the sea was a bit wavy, we were exposed to sea spray, good for us, not for cameras, so pictures are not from today 😉
