22nd of August to 4th of September of 2015 Statistics Report

From the 22nd of August to the 4^th of September we sighted 9 different species of Cetaceans!

 One Species of Baleen Whales: Fin Whales;

Two Species of Toothed Whales: Sperm Whales and Beaked Whales

Six Species of Dolphins: False Killer Whales, Bottlenose, Common, Striped, Risso’s and Atlantic Spotted Dolphins.  

Can you believe that August is still “kicking our butts”?! Bad weather and rough weather, and a lot of cancelations have been our scenarios for the last weeks… But in between all that (when we are able to go out!) we still have excellent sightings. Bumpy and salty adventures without a doubt but good ones!

Not a lot of photos though… Waves and cameras don’t go very well together! It is a bit frustrating…

But not all is lost!

Take a look at this Atlantic Spotted Dolphin calf on the 24^th of August jumping!

Dolphins can jump for a few different reasons like to communicate with other members of the group, sometimes to show dominance(in this case learning for the future for when it becomes an adult), to get ride of parasites on thr skin or sometimes just for plain good old fun! Which looks like what this calf was doing.

It’s mother was around, very close, but this calf just wanted to have a bit of fun and to show off. We are not complaining! 🙂

So lets hope that the Atlantic Ocean gives us a break in the next few weeks. We want to go out to ocean to see and meet our friends the Whales and the Dolphins!
