Today was, once again, a perfect day for whale-watching: clear skies, perfect visibility for our lookouts and the sea was full of life!!
The day started with a young Fin whale swimming in circles around the boat! At the distance we could also see 2 more blows during the entire encounter, so we had 2 more Fin whales – probably adults judging by the height of the blow – nearby.
While we were with the whale a big, active group of Striped dolphins showed up right next to it! It’s amazing to see them jumping and breaching so fast! Although it makes it a bit harder to take photos 🙂
We could still count with a very calm group of Bottlenose dolphins and another of Atlantic Spotted dolphins. Both were very relaxed and curious approaching the boat.
Our Swimming with Dolphins boat was just leaving when we arrived to the Spotted dolphin group. This amazing group allowed for an amazing experience as our swimmers could see them and the Cory’s shearwaters eating, and also had a close look at their food 🙂
The day finished with more Fin whales and our ever loyal Common dolphins!
Despite, looking like this afternoon the Common dolphins didn’t want to swim with us, we got to watch them and the Fin whale that was close by. To finish in beauty, we had a special visit to the Vila Franca Islet 😀
Today was such a rich day: Spring baleen whales, Summer and Resident dolphins, and we even got to see our first Devil Rays of the season!
Keep tuned for more news of our tours! 😀
