Today the azorian weather welcomed us with open arms, so we were able to feel every season during our tours 🙂
But not only the weather was azorian – also the resident species seemed to appear, at least three of the four!

Starting with the Common dolphins, a large group, probably the same as yesterday morning. They were running to take their breakfast, taking advantage of the waves!

And not far from this amazing group, we enjoyed a group as large as the Common dolphins, and you know what?! They were actively taking breakfast too !

Seems like there is a lot of fish around since we have windy and wavy days, we had the surprise to cross the road of a sunfish again! It is the largest fish with bones, it can reach 3 meters in length (average 2 meters)  and weighs more than 2000 kg! It doesn’t have a tail but it has 2 prominent dorsal fins. This fish grow by eating jellyfish, wich is surprising because they are low in calories so it has to eat a lot! Our skipper Nuno, who is a fisherman too, became crazy about it 😛

During the afternoon, we were searching for some dolphins since a while, and suddenly, a sperm whale appeard just in front of us, breathing at the surface with its typical blow! What a view! 🙂 Short after we arrived, she took a deep dive and raised the fluke. Always a breath taking moment! After a while a mother and a juvenile surfaced and were swimming calmly on the surface, so we could observe very well the blow hole opening up and closing again. One after the other, headed for the deep blue ocean, showing the fluke just few moments before.

…before to take a deep dive 🙂

Near to the sperm whales, a group of Bottlenose dolphins were swimming together in a very tight group. As they were chasing some fish near to the surface, the Cory’s Shearwaters took advantage of this moment. They start to fly up to a height of about five meters, falling down like rockets to hunt on fish. After touching the water they begin to swim with their wings 🙂
