The afternoon was not different, good sea state conditions, good weather, good animals and good mood! Yes, it was impossible today to don’t have a big smile on our faces 😀

We started the tour with a young loggerhead, a bit larger than the one seen in the morning. It was resting at the surface and when it woke up it dove repeatedly as we tried to approach it few times. The attempts were made because we wanted to tag it and take length measurements. However, due to its avoidance, we decided to let it alone and to don’t tag for this time. Maybe next time it will be more relaxed and we will be able to add this individual to the list of tagged loggerhead turtles.

We then started heading far out, about 10miles from the coast and 17miles from our lookout in Ponta Garça. The long journey was worth it as we met two fin whales, also resting. Just before leaving them, one individual defecated. A large reddish patch on the surface was slowly disrupting and mixing with the ocean.

Now, after some whales and a turtle it was missing some dolphins, and there they go 🙂 we met a nice group of bottlenose dolphins travelling eastwards.

On our way back we also observed a big piece of squid floating at the surface. Considering the size of it it surely belonged to a giant squid, inhabiting the deep sea and brought at the surface by its main predator, the sperm whale.

A good day spent in good company! 😀
