This day was an excellent day, for me and everyone on the tour. But why was this day so special? Well the answer is very simple, sperm whales are deep divers, they are the second animal in the world that can deep dive for a long time. They can stay under water around one hour. It can be a long wait till the sperm whale comes back up to the surface, to breathe. We got the call from our lookout giving us the exact time the whale would surf up again to breath. We waited 7 minutes, the gigantic sperm whale’s blow was impressive and the whale was remaining at the surface. Then the sperm whale deep dived and in doing so we were able to admire the size and fluke of this magnificent individual.

We continued our journey after the sperm whale dove in order to admire the stripped dolphins, who are always very fast. Fortunately Tiago our skipper and camera man could take the following lovely picture, of the stripped dolphins.

So again, an amazing morning in the island of Sao Miguel in the middle of the Atlantic ocean.
