What a surprise, Fin whales again today! Haha…we are overflooded with Fin whales these weeks! And also…Common dolphins again this afternoon. I think we have broken the record this month of most “Finwhale + Common dolphin” tours in the history of Terra Azul!
We are starting to think; are we actually Whale watching the Fin whales, or are they human watching? It seems like they are there waiting for us each day, in the same spot, to do some human watching. Because in the end….all of you also came on a migration to the Azores, and you will leave again. So do the whales. Well, I think it comes both ways! Did you know that Baleen whales, like Fin whales, stay home to their own Hemisphere only? That means we are seeing Northern Fin whales here only, as they do not cross the equator.
The Fin whales were hiding in the beginning of the tour, and eventually some far away blows appeared in all different directions, until they came very close, making it clear there were 2 in the area!
There were also about 20 Common dolphins in the morning tour today, they were racing through the ocean like they were chasing each other, or maybe some small fish. Dolphins are known to play with their food sometimes before they grab it to eat.
