This afternoon we went on a far but very worthy trip! We started out with a group of Atlantic Spotted dolphins of all ages, that were pretty interactive with us, as usual. Soon after that, people were wondering if we would possibly see any Sperm whales, as they were already present in the morning. And yes…Filipe our lookout sended us 15 miles out to get a big, literally big, surprise!
At least 5 Sperm whales were socializing near the boat, including a tiny calf that was continuously putting its head out, a behavior that we call “spyhopping”. After awhile, 3 of the whales were putting their heads out for about 5 minutes, and it seemed as if they were taking a very short nap. All in all it was a blast to have such a close look into a moment of the life of this Sperm Whale family.
On the way back to the coast we got surprised by a group of Common dolphins, and ended up back in our beloved marina with some rays of sunshine. See you tomorrow everybody 🙂
