Baby is here to stay

This amazing picture was taken yesterday during our tour, no wonder baby does not wanna leave.

During yesterday’s trip,  our team encountered what we believe to be the same individuals of the day before !

Remember how we saw  two Sei Whales (Balaenoptera borealis) a mother and her offspring on the 21st ? Well, we believe that those same individuals stayed for two days in the same area.

This might mean that the mother is taking a bit of a brake and enjoying temperate waters while nursing her little one. Children are a bliss, and how awesome is that this little fellow is partaking in adventures across the ocean with his mom. We can only wish that one day we encounter this young individual again.

 

The boat then navigated to find the Oceanic Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) but guess what these massive cheekie fellows where doing, yes I guess you know it! They were mating, and we got a good photo by our friend João Correia of them in action underwater.

 

 

Being a dolphin is not easy, because one, they are so beautiful and graceful and two, as any other animal out there there is always the survival factor to take into account. I truly believe that dolphins are one of the most spectacular animals in the world, and the Atlantic Spotted Dolphins (Stenella frontalis) are living proof of that. These majestic creatures where feeding in the same area as the smart Cory’s shearwaters (Calonectris borealis), and here they were captioned when performing one of their famous acrobatic leaps. NICE !!!

 

 

A good sailor once told me ” You wanna find animals at sea? Always take a good look at the birds”, and ” Oh boy”, was he right.
