We navigated today in the Atlantic ocean in order to find a mother Sperm Whale (Physeter macrocephalus) and its calf.
The sea was wavy but to satisfy the curiosity of many this only really affects us, not the whales. The sighting we had was amazing regardless. The two whales were at the surface, little after the mother dove into the depths of the ocean on the search of the delicious squid.
We spotted a small calf, tale slapping with no doubt whatsoever calling out for its mother.
The mother appeared afterwards and the result was a calmer baby, the behaviour was quite clear.
It was like seeing a little kid crying out for his momma, and when the child sees the momma he relaxes and smiles. It was so cute to see the behaviour of these mammals in the wild.
We navigated slowly back to shore and where happy to enjoy a local cup of tea in order to discuss the amazing trip we had on a beautiful Wednesday morning.
