Today was another day in the company of baleen whales 🙂
We went out with the new boat TAIII and to inaugurate it we had two fin whales on our tour! The whales were foraging as confirmed by the faeces, a brownish spot area visible at the surface, and by their dive intervals.
Foraging baleen whales can be highly unpredictable and can surface very far between dives making it difficult to keep track of them. This time the whales could be easily followed and observed since they were staying within the same area during the whole encounter.
Do you know that fin whales are the fastest among large whales? They can reach 37Km/h and for this reason are called the greyhound of the sea. They are also capable of breaching out of the water, although they do it rarely.
