Today was a one of those days Windguru almost tells you to stay home.
Yet, out there is plenty of life and cetaceans do not care about our weather predictions 😉
So, it happens that we head out and it does not take too long to be literally surrounded by hundreds of Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops truncatus).
Further away, not that far from shore, a puff of mist, definitely a blow. Another one, this time smaller.
A Sperm Whale (Physeter macrocephalus) mother is emerging with her calf. They soon go for a shallow dive, perfect fluke-up by mama whale, and good job by our skipper to take a picture that will be usable for photo-id. Few minutes later they come up again, and, one after another, several other individuals, including another mother-calf pair, join them. Terra Azul boat is just drifting silently, whales seems totally relaxed and engage in socializing activities. One large individual, in particular, receives most of the attentions with all the pod rubbing on its side, vertical, in the water column.
Winds are picking up and we must head back to Vila Franca do Campo.
Today was one of those day to be out there. 🙂
