Hi there you all! 🙂

Today at sea we could experience ourselfs how rich of life the oceans around us are. Short after leaving the harbour we found our boat in between a large pot of bottlenose dolphins. The pot was spread out a bit and so basically everywhere you looked you could see them in different shades of grey.

Of course we could enjoy seeing them for much longer, but our lookout spotted a something promising… and after a short but fast drive we arrived at the whale zone and saw a blue whale. After a few dives more distant, it chose to dive down right next to our boat, just a few meters away. What a sight! The distinguish lighter spots on its side were clearly visible and one could easily compare its size to the size of the boat.

It is not everyday that we are lucky like this. And our luck lasted much longer – a blow on the horizon lead us to three fin whales! Everyone could easily compare the two species now and follow the white patch of the fin whales lower jaw under the water surface. We watched them dive a few times, before heading back towards the island of Vila Franca. Here, wildlife surprised us again! One of the people on the boat already saw something, and then our lookout confirmed.. We took a sharp turn and found us near a nice and playful group of common and striped dolphins. Such a joy to see the two species having fun together! 🙂

The end of the tour was remarkable too, as we saw the same group of bottlenose dolphins again, but now much more grouped or ‘concentrated’. It really was a perfect glimpse into the world of whales and dolphins today 🙂
